Indian Project

New Indian Church to Launch
CT Abraham, Church Planter
I am very pleased to announce to you that we are launching the first Indian congregation of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in Yonkers, New York - 15 miles north of Manhattan. Planting an Indian church in New York City was a dream and prayer of Kerala Christian Mission, India, for the past 20 years. The Lord is faithful and in 2008 Orchard Group Church Planting initiated the Indian Project. By the grace of God and Orchard Group’s vision, the dream to serve over 500,000 Indians in metro New York came true.
We selected the name of the Church as Westchester Indian Christian Church. Westchester is a large county north of the Bronx with a high concentration of Indians. India commemorates its 62nd year of independence from British rule on August 15. This day is similar to Independence Day in America. Therefore we decided to have the inaugural service of Westchester Indian Christian Church on Saturday, August 15th at 11am. We request all your prayers at this time.
The meeting place is Christ Chapel, near Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. This neighborhood is a hub of activity among South Indians in Westchester County. God willing, we will begin having our Sunday worship services on August 16th, 2009.
The services will be bilingual (both Malayalam and English). This will allow us to serve the Malayalam-speaking community from Kerala , the younger generation born and brought up here in New York, and those who are here from any other states of India (in English).
I am very happy to have the support and help from our friends in American Christian Churches coming and serving us in many ways in the initial stages. I do hope that there will be various serving opportunities in the future to work together.
The main purpose and focus of this congregation is to build a community of people who Love God and Love people and Serve others with the God-given talents and thus the message of Christ will pass through the believers will pass through us.
My wife, Lovely, serves in the WICC office and we are blessed with our 10 year old daughter Sandra. Christina Philippose student of Long Island University will be serving in the Children’s ministry in the initial stages.
Our Lord is faithful and the vision of Orchard Group to plant a church for the Indian community in New York is going to come true shortly. Amen!
