The Orchard Group

In September of 2002, Toney Salva and his family accepted the challenge to move to Cranberry Township to organize a new church for this growing area of Pennsylvania.  From this, Discovery Christian Church was born.

 Discovery Christian Church is a unique multi-site congregation serving both the city and the suburbs of Pittsburgh.  Discovery Cranberry launched its first service for the public on September 21^st, 2003 in a movie theater in Cranberry Township, PA… a northern suburb of Pittsburgh.  Discovery Cranberry quickly outgrew the movie theater and moved into an educational and training facility called The Regional Learning Alliance.  This state of the art facility has helped Discovery Cranberry to continue to expand and improve upon what was started in the theater.

In 2006 Discovery launched an urban campus in the bar district in Pittsburgh known as the ‘Southside’.  Discovery Southside meets in a trendy art and photography studio and strives to connect with the young artisan community of the Southside flats with their music, unique style and message.

In 2008 Discovery launched a ministry to Burmese refugees who reside in Pittsburgh.  More than 300 Burmese refugees call Pittsburgh home… that number is expected to double within the next year.  On Easter of 2008, Discovery launched a new Burmese campus in the Pwo Karen language. 

As we move into 2009, Discovery Cranberry has secured property on the busiest corridor in Western PA and has plans to build their first permanent facility by 2011.  Our hope is to continue to increase our sphere of influence in western PA while constantly looking for ways to remain an intimate community.  We believe our unique multi site/ multi cultural approach will help us to accomplish both.

With the partnership of Orchard Group and several other organizations and churches, Discovery Christian Church has plans to launch a daughter church in the South Hills of Western, PA sometime in 2009 or 2010.
